What is the DOTS score?
DOTS (Dynamic Objective Team Scoring) was developed to replace the Wilks formula. It uses a 4th-degree polynomial to normalize performance across bodyweights. Many powerlifting federations adopted DOTS as their primary scoring metric because it provides more balanced comparisons, particularly at extreme bodyweights where the classic Wilks formula showed bias.
Comparison

| System | Method | Primary use | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| DOTS | 4th-degree polynomial | Many IPF affiliates | Current |
| Wilks | 5th-degree polynomial | Historical / some feds | Legacy |
| IPF GL | Exponential model | IPF competitions | Current |
